With our roots firmly laid down in smart energy technology for over 20 years, Calisen has been on a transformation journey to become the industry leader we are today.
Our heritage has been built upon the deep knowledge, experience and passion created by our legacy companies Calvin Capital and Lowri Beck, to bring smart metering to the UK. With those companies now united under the Calisen brand name, we move forward stronger as one team with one corporate identity.
With the launch of Plug Me In and the acquisitions of Advizzo, MapleCo and Utility Warehouse Home Service, we move forward to becoming one of the UK’s largest owner and installer of energy transition technology for homes and businesses. With one strategy and one team our deep sense of purpose sets us apart – to deliver Smarter Energy for All, building a cleaner and greener future for all.

Meet our Board and Executive Team
Bert Pijls
Bert Pijls was appointed as Chair in July 2021. He joined Calisen in September 2017 as Chief Executive Officer, following a successful career in financial services and utilities spanning 30 years. Prior to joining Calisen he worked in the financial services industry as CEO of Hellenic Bank, Managing Director at Citibank and CEO of Egg Banking. In addition to his experience in the financial services industry, Bert worked in the energy sector as Managing Director for Customer Service and Commercial at British Gas/Centrica.
Sean Latus
Sean became Group CEO in July 2021 having held a number of senior roles in the business since joining in October 2014. Initially as Chief Investment Officer, he helped transition the business from an owner of traditional meters to being a broader provider of energy infrastructure services to the retail market. Sean held the CFO position in February 2018 until he became Group CEO. Sean’s previous roles include Head of Investments at Costain plc, Senior Director at RBS Project and Infrastructure Finance, and Investment Director at John Laing.
Sarah Blackburn
Sarah Blackburn joined Calisen in April 2014 and was appointed as Chief Commercial Officer and General Counsel from 1 July 2021. Prior to that Sarah was part of the senior management team as General Counsel and Company Secretary. Sarah is responsible for leading the commercial, transactions and legal teams within the Group. She is a qualified lawyer with over 20 years of experience in a broad range of commercial transactions, infrastructure, M&A and finance.
Brandon Rennet
Brandon joined Calisen in December 2022 as Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining Calisen, Brandon served as CFO of Thames Water. Previously he was at SSE plc in a range of senior finance roles, including Managing Director for Finance (2013 – 2017). Most recently, he was CFO at Storegga, the international project developer focused primarily on carbon capture and storage. Brandon brings over 20 years’ experience working on critical national infrastructure projects from a variety of perspectives.
Matthew Bateman
Matthew joined Calisen at the beginning of October 2022 as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to this he worked for Centrica plc for 24 years leading various business units including as Managing Director, British Gas and his most recent role as MD, British Gas Services and Solutions. His responsibilities included the Smart Metering programme as well as being CEO of British Gas’ Insurance business.
San Johal
San is a highly experienced professional who joined Calisen in July 2023. In her current role, San is responsible for overseeing the overall People delivery of the Group. Prior to joining Calisen, San held the position of Chief People Officer at EDF Renewables UK and Executive Director of Human Resources & OD at Highways England. San is also a Chartered Fellow (FCIPD) and has over ten years of experience at a senior level.
Kim Ratcliffe
Kim joined Calisen at the beginning of June 2024 as Managing Director of Plug Me In. Having held positions at Vodafone, TalkTalk, and British Gas, Kim brings a track record of transformative leadership and expansion. At Hive, she led Global Customer Operations, across Europe and into the U.S.. During her tenure as Chief Operating Officer at Water Plus and later HomeServe, Kim led transformation programs which revolutionised its business operations in the UK and North America.
