Making an impact – Our sustainability journey so far

Our sustainability journey so far

At Calisen, we are fully committed to making a positive impact on the world around us. Our journey towards sustainability is driven by our determination to create a greener and more equitable future. In 2020 we formalised our company sustainability strategy. It was developed to align with our core values and long-term vision of ‘Smarter energy for all’. Here’s a look at the progress we’ve made over the last four years.

Implementation of sustainability measures: In support of the UK’s efforts to address climate change we set ourselves ambitious targets for reducing our company’s carbon footprint. Specifically, we established a goal to achieve net zero for our operations by 2030. So how are we doing? We are making good progress. We have invested in the installation of Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers in our engineers’ homes to support our transition to electric vehicles and all our offices now have renewable electricity.

We have also implemented a series of measures to address sustainability challenges in the energy industry. In 2023 we added 4.6 million smart meters to our portfolio, taking our total up to 12 million, meaning we are continuing to contribute towards reduction of carbon emissions generated by the use of household energy.

In addition we are supporting the UK Government’s strategy to transition to residential and commercial heat pumps by acquiring two leading specialists, Ecofit Renewables and Source ECO, to accelerate our progress in this important sector. We also now offer new services in partnership with our latest acquisition, Advizzo, which allows us to analyse consumer data, with a focus on the water industry, to support consumers to reduce their water consumption and generate potential cost savings.

Environment, social and governance goals (ESG): We are proud of the progress we have made towards our ESG goals. We have established a clear sustainability agenda, raised business-wide awareness, and advanced our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) agenda.  We have also reduced our vehicle fleet's environmental impact by increasing the number of EVs in our fleet, as well as introducing a number of electric bikes.

Supporting social development: We have pledged to support the economic and social development of our communities and to promote sustainable living through training, education, information, resources and charitable support. Our support for Manchester and Wigan’s Youth Zones has already made a significant impact on their local communities.  We have provided 10,000 free hot meals, funded adventure holidays for families, and supported mental health provision.  We have also funded the costs for 20 schools to apply for the Green Flag Award, and launched the Calisen Impact Charitable Trust to engage with charity partners and support their work.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (EDI):  We have worked hard to develop and implement a comprehensive EDI strategy. We actively work to attract and retain a diverse workforce by implementing initiatives such as colleague recognition schemes, creating employee networks, and launching apprenticeship schemes. We have also established our first employee network group to provide a platform for underrepresented groups to connect and drive positive change. More of these will be created during 2024.

These achievements demonstrate our commitment to sustainability, social development, and creating a greener future.  Join the smart energy revolution and help us as we work toward a better future for our environment and the communities we serve. Search our latest vacancies
